EDEN MUIR, FRELIGHSBURG, 2010/09/17.
For two days over the Labour Day weekend, the village of Frelighsburg was
transformed. Yes, there were arts and crafts in the streets, displayed in
over 125 tents...
But just as impressive, the population surged each
day from a few hundred to many thousands, stretching along the
angled segments and historic facades of rue Principale. It was possible
to imagine a bustling 19th-century market day, long before the invention of the automobile.
One could even dream of a future time when Townships
villages have been developed into models of sustainable settlement at a human scale,
the streets lined with small businesses,
the heritage buildings proudly preserved,
and public transportation provided by
an electric shuttle bus or "navette"...
